He and his family lived at 9 Albert Street in Govan, Lanark, Scotland, United Kingdom on 2 Apr 1871 and James was a ship joiner. 1 He immigrated to the United States in 18724 or in 18756 and spent the rest of his life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. James and his family lived at 959 Emlen Street in Philadelphia on 1 Jun 1880 and he was a worker at Whiting fac[tory?].3 James was naturalized in 1885.6 James, his wife, and their grandson James T. Sutton, lived at 2410 Adams Street in 1 Jun 1900 and James was ship joiner.4 After his wife died in 1907, James lived with his daughter Ellen Todd Bacon and her family.
